Accela Acquires Kinsail to Offer Innovative Recreation and Resource Management Solutions

New Civic Platform Offering Streamlines Recreation Operations, Certification and Compliance Programs for Federal and State Agencies.

Accela, the leading provider of civic engagement solutions for government, announced today that it has acquired Kinsail, a Virginia-based provider of recreation and resource management solution for more than a dozen Federal and State agencies and hundreds of sites across the United States. Kinsail solutions, which will be renamed Recreation and Resource Management, empower agencies to improve business operations, increase revenue and decrease costs by allowing citizens access to online and mobile-based self-service transactions with agencies, improving compliance and enforcement through web and mobile tools and applications, and offering access to data and information in real-time about usage, transactions and more. Kinsail’s strong presence in the parks and recreation segment includes customers such as the USDA Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, State of California and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Today, Kinsail solutions enable customers to:

  • Access parks, forests and refuges easily and quickly;
  • Reserve campgrounds, tickets, facilities, and other items;
  • Apply for limited quantity activities such as specialized hunts, tickets, and rafting;
  • Secure permits and licenses for hunting, fishing, and other uses;
  • Register and certify with government agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service;
  • Register for and attend conferences and events; and
  • Join membership organizations such as the US Chamber of Commerce.

The acquisition of Kinsail bolsters Accela’s growing portfolio of government agency customers leveraging the Accela Civic Platform for Land Management, Licensing, Asset Management, Legislative Management and Public Health and Safety. Accela will support Kinsail solutions, and customers will be able to leverage Accela Civic Platform capabilities to manage and provide open data through CivicData.com, Accela’s free open data portal and take advantage of the company’s growing ecosystem of developers and partners.

“We’re pleased to have Kinsail join the Accela family,” said Maury Blackman, Accela President and CEO. “More than ever, government agencies of all sizes are looking to technology to help bridge the divide between agency and citizen. There is a large, untapped market in the parks, recreation and leisure management sector with nearly 75 million permits issued annually and billions of park visits each year. By making it easier to accept applications and collect fees for permits, tickets, and reservations, we can better serve citizens and agencies alike.”

“Accela is a leader in civic solutions for government agencies of all sizes, so this is a perfect fit,” said Tim Keough, Senior Vice President and General Manager in the newly formed Accela Recreation and Resource Management business unit. “Accela and Kinsail are committed to serving our customers and continuing to provide the innovative solutions and top-notch support they have come to expect. We look forward to growing together and to being a part of the growing Accela community.”
